What is external collaboration in monday.com?
We see monday at its base as a work management platform for teams. It is used to keep track of work by creating a bank of information in a shared workspace that your team members collaborate on together to get work done!
Collaboration
Collaboration on data is what makes monday powerful. monday is highly optimized for that. Here is an example to show how collaboration on data becomes the bedrock of how work gets done in the modern age:
- Alex (marketing) -> Creates a lead
- Josh (Sales) -> Contacts the lead and closes the deal
- Sally (Customer Success) -> Onboards the new client
One could say collaboration is the heart of monday.
Internal vs. external
At any business, team-members have different areas of responsibility split between them by type; These departments collaborate not only with each other internally, but often with external stakeholders as well. Collaboration within the business is internal and collaboration between one of your departments and someone who is not your employee is an external collaboration. (Your client is only one example of an external stakeholder).
We believe monday is optimized heavily for internal collaboration and there is a gap for external collaboration that this bible is aiming to thoroughly and completely address (hence the name bible).
Exception: enterprises
This definiton might vary in bigger businesses with different departments on different work management platforms. Your service team might be on monday while your sales team is on hubspot or salesforce. In such a scenario, external collaboration extends over any communication between the part of your team that is on monday and the part that is not on monday.
Baseline
In this bible, the baseline and the fallback method for external collaboration in monday is: ad-hoc.
Meaning, for any external collaboration, a team member with access to monday.com, can communicate freely through any means to the external party and manually update the monday data. This could be an email, a meeting, a phone call. As long as it is not streamlined, it is ad-hoc.
